Frequently Asked Questions

If your question isn't included below then please feel free to get in touch via email where I would happy to answer anything further. Alternatively please get in touch if you would like to book a free 15-minute initial video consultation, with no obligation to continue.

How many sessions do people usually have?

I cannot give an exact figure for how many sessions you might benefit from, as this would depend on your difficulties and how much support you would like. However, research into CBT interventions for anxiety and depression suggests that people benefit from somewhere in the region of 6 and 20 sessions.

How does virtual therapy work?

Since the COVID pandemic the availability of virtual therapy has increased, research looking into this has also indicated that it can be as effective as in person, as well as offer a number of benefits.

I offer sessions via Microsoft Teams, a video platform that enables me to share my screen and complete resources together with the people I see.

Will everything I say in therapy be confidential?

I understand that most of the things people share in therapy are really difficult to talk about, and individuals do not want this information shared with others. When I start sessions with a new client I will ask them who, if anyone, they would like involved in their treatment and therefore whether they would like me to share information with others such as parents or partners. Some people chose to have family involvement, where as others prefer not. Some people also might chose to share some aspects of treatment, but not all - this can all be discussed and tailored specifically to what you would find helpful.

The only time I will share information about your sessions would be if I have information to suggest that you or someone else is at risk of harm. If this happens I will always try and discuss with you first, unless I think it would increase the likelihood of harm. In these situations I may need to share the information with your GP, and other services to help keep you and others safe.

In addition to this, as part of my commitment to professional development and providing good quality therapy I engage with regular professional supervision where I will discuss therapy plans with my supervisor. This is a requirement of psychological therapy governing bodies including the BABCP who I am accredited with.

What if I need to cancel a session?

I understand that sometimes life happens and you may need to cancel a session we had planned, I would please ask that you provide me with at least 24 hours notice so that I am able to offer a full refund for the session.

If you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice this will result in a full charge for the session.

Are there any additional fees?

All resources shared with you during the course of treatment are included in the session fees, you can keep these and refer back to them after you have finished sessions to keep supporting your progress.
